Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to everything from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island was not. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. She admitted in an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was an urging from her drama teacher. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on both small and large screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale which was filmed over ten years ago.
